Role Description:
The Level 2 UNIX Systems Administrator provides end to end infrastructure services and support for the firm’s application development, production support clients and end users. The support covers multiple lines of business and focuses on system installation, configuration, availability and performance. Flag exceptions as problems or service impacting. Provides and supports a viable BCP strategy, including participation in regular contingency testing. Participate in Change, Release, Incident, Event and Problem Management processes as needed.
Responsibilities include:
· Build, integrate and maintain servers in development, QA, production and contingency environments.
· Provide escalation support for L1 Operations Analysts.
· Perform basic troubleshooting of hardware, storage and network problems as necessary and perform root cause analysis when possible.
· Assist application partners with application releases.
· Configure storage, monitoring and tape backup on servers.
· Ensure all servers comply with the firm’s established security standards.
· Assist in facilities, networking and storage maintenance events.
· Plan, test and implement changes and upgrades to the server hardware and operating systems environment as required.
· Act as escalation point for unresolved Level 1 issues.
· Create or update run book documentation on an ongoing basis to ensure run books are current and enable quicker time to resolution.
Requirements:
· Degree/Diploma in Computer Science or equivalent.
· At least 2 years of System Administrator experience supporting Production, Development & QA systems within an enterprise environment.
· Good knowledge of UNIX/Linux Operating Systems (Solaris & Redhat Linux) and related technologies - DNS, NFS, AD, TCP/IP, VMWare and blade technology
· Strong analytical, debugging and troubleshooting skills.
· Strong interpersonal, communications, organizational and time management skills.
· Experience with clustering technology - Veritas clustering
Desired skills (but not essential):
· Knowledge of Kickstart, Jumpstart, Ghost or other disk imaging strategies
· Knowledge of debugging tools such as NetMon, Perfmon, SAR and scripting
· Knowledge of HP/Compaq Insight Performance & Monitoring Toolsets
· Experience with Intel and/or Opteron Based Hardware Platforms
· Knowledge of HP/Compaq Proliant model Hardware
· Knowledge of Remote Administration and configuration through RILO/ALOM technologies
· Knowledge of Market Data delivery systems such as Reuters and Tibco
· ITIL Training or Foundations Certification highly preferred
