Sr. UNIX Engineer - Boston, MA

Job Summary

This role will be part of the UNIX engineering team and will have responsibilities for architecting and designing the UNIX and future Linux environments. This role includes the identification of new technology, developing UNIX and Linux strategies, developing multi-year plans, working w/ the application teams on designing Solaris/Linux environment that meet the application teams requirements, evaluating technology options, project managing large projects and providing day to day 3rd level support.

Job Responsibilities

· Provide thought leadership on all UNIX and Linux technologies and products
· Collect/analyze firm wide requirements
· Research new technologies and develop multi-year strategy
· Create and communicate UNIX and Linux standards
· Guide technology product selections, system design, and implementation activities on UNIX platforms
· Lead the design discussions associated with options including autonomous data center, grid computing, and introduction of Linux into the portfolio.
· Create and maintain UNIX and Linux product evaluation and testing documentation
· Perform post-implementation 3rd level support, identifying root cause with strategic solutions to problems

Job Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree
· 10+ years experience in the design, implementation, and support of high impact, high company investment, and mission critical projects
· Expert knowledge of our core technologies: Solaris, Veritas VM and VCS, EMC TimeFinder and SRDF and knowledge of advanced storage technologies from EMC, Network Appliance, Hitachi, and other emerging vendors.
· Comprehensive knowledge of UNIX (Solaris 10 or higher) and Linux (RedHat or Suise) operating system internals and internetworking tools and utilities.
